Just down the street from the University of Memphis' south campus, located on 1264 Getwell Road, Ching’s Hot Wings is a popular place for students and residents alike to enjoy some good home cooked wings.

The restaurant, founded in 2003, has been a constant for U of M students, both past and present.

Open seven days a week, Ching’s features many different style of wings and tenders. Along with their flavorful wings, they are also known for their famous seasoned fries.

Flavors of wings vary from mild hot, extreme hot and suicide seasoned down to honey hot and honey gold.

Ching’s even goes the extra mile and serves hot dogs, smoked sausage, onion rings, jalapeño poppers and fried okra to go along with their main dishes.

“It’s messy, but at the same time, very worth the mess,” said Mark West, a freshman civil engineering major at the U of M.
Niesey Bobo, one of the four co-owners of the restaurant, loves making her restaurant feel like home.

“I hope we are making a large impact," Bobo said . "I want to make sure our name is being mentioned around the U of M."

Bobo co-owns the restaurants with fellow family members Stacey Jackson, Lafayette Williams and Joshua Williams.

On an average week, the restaurant goes through about 200,000 pounds of wings.

“The food is good, the sauce is great, and so are the fries," said Sam Hedge, a freshman Management Information Systems major at the U of M.

The restaurant maintains a policy of not serving alcohol so that it can cater to families as well as the high-school and college crowd.

“We don’t serve alcohol here," Bobo added. "We want the younger groups to have their own sports bar."

The restaurant features about 20 big screen televisions, all featuring the biggest daily sporting events.

Decorated inside and out of the restaurant are pictures of current and past University of Memphis athletes, Memphis celebrities and high school and college students from around the Memphis area.

Guests are welcome to come in and sit down to enjoy some wings or take some to go, if they’re on the run.

“We love meeting people different people, especially the younger crowd,” Bobo explained. “We love watching them grow up over the years.”

If you enjoy wings, sports and a good atmosphere to spend time with friends, then Ching’s Hot Wings is the place for you.
