The address currently houses a 28,700 square foot vacant Captain D’s fast food chain. The building that has served as the sub shop’s home for more than 50 years is being sold and demolished to make way for a new commercial development.

“It has been statistically proven that graffiti, if taken down within the first 24 hours after appearance, two times in a row, will not appear a third time in the same spot,” said TK Buchanan, community safety liaison between the University District and University of Memphis. The expansion will include a Lifestyle Center of shopping and eating establishments. In order to connect the Lifestyle Center to the main campus, the University is planning to acquire and tear down more than 30 rental properties and homes on the west side of South Highland in the block of Midland Avenue and Watauga Avenue to build an Alumni Center surrounded by a second alumni mall to create a “sense of place” to serve as the Main Entry to campus. |
