Driving is so last season. The new trend is to peddle.

Bikes have become very popular around the U District.

“Many University of Memphis students purchase or rent bikes here,” said Cort Percer, manager of Peddler Bike Shop at 575 S Highland St. The store has been in the U District for 40 years.

Peddler Bike Shop has bikes ranging from $400 dollars and up. It also offers rentals that are priced at $35 for a half a day, $50 for a full day and $100 for the weekend.

This shop consists of so many different bikes so choosing one is difficult. However, there are helpful workers who are willing to find the perfect bike for customers.

“I love working here. I love the atmosphere; it’s a family friendly environment,” said Johnny Allen, a mechanic at Peddler Bike Shop.

The University of Memphis has purchased 55 bikes from Peddler Bike Shop to rent to students in the fall semester. As of right now, the University is still a working process of how students will be able to rent these bikes.

Peddler Bike Shop is also participating in upcoming events such as the Bike Swap on March 16, which is basically bike owners trading bikes for a reasonable price.

For more information people can visit the site at http://www.bikeswap.us. Peddler Bike Shop will also participate in the MemFits, which is a program, will help the district in making the area cleaner and greener.
